There are four types of lights that can be created in OctaneRender for Maya. These light types can be accessed from the OctaneRender shelf (Figure 1) or from the Octane Nodes and Octane Emission categories in the Hypershade window (Figure 2).

By default, when a scene is rendered with no lights added, Octane defaults to a white ambient light that fills the scene. To disable this ambient lighting, an Octane Sun Sky node should be added to the scene and then additional lighting can be added. Only Octane light nodes can be used. Maya native lights will not work with the plug-in.
